How to Find a Mentor How to Be a Mentor Oscar Peer Leaders Mosaic tile Ways to be involved with OSCAR OSCAR supports students by: Helping them find a project and mentor Funding undergraduate research and creative projects Providing student travel grants Supporting interdisciplinary courses Hosting the Celebration of Scholarship Sharing information about undergraduate research opportunities OSCAR supports faculty through: Finding and helping recruiting students to assist with research Funding for scholarly work with undergraduates Recognizing outstanding mentorship Free membership to the Council on Undergraduate Research Helping with writing, recruitment, and services offered by OSCAR for extramural grant proposals including undergraduates Open to: Undergraduate students on any campus in any major any year! Any socioeconomic status, race or ethnicity, immigration status, sexual orientation, or gender identity! Enrolled as an undergraduate at one of the Mason campuses In good standing (no minimum GPA but students should be in good academic standing) Any major The project does not have to match your major (i.e., a Physics student wrote a musical, a Biology Student did a sociology project, etc.) Find a project that interests you, even if it’s not what you plan to do for the rest of your life Benefits of Student Involvement: Opportunity to know something or create something totally new Career readiness-skills employers are looking for, for example, communication skills, teamwork, problem-solving, etc. Chance to have deeper, richer relationships with faculty and student colleagues Required for many graduate and professional programs Active learning in your chosen profession Fun!
